Anatomy of a Roof (Part 2)
What You Can Do About It?
Pacific Roofing is the company most qualified to know what to do here in central California. They plan for TOP OF THE ROOF MAINTENANCE which refers to the concept that each part of the roofing component works in conjunction with the other to shield against weather and promote energy efficiency.
UNDERLAYMENT Roofs are no longer fabricated with spaced sheeting underneath. They are covered by 4' x 8' solid sheeting of varying thicknesses. We encourage use of a power company approved radiant barrier that is covered with foil on one side. There are often rebates included when installing this product. This helps keep your building warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
VENTILATION Many people believe that a roof is a sealed unit. IT IS NOT! Roofs must breathe so that hot air is transferred outdoors in the summer and water vapor is expelled in the winter. Ventilation is so very important because it permits air to enter through the soffit eave vents and flow out through the top ridge line venting in a Title 24* approved roof.
SHINGLES/SHAKES Most homeowners in today's marketplace invest in composition quality materials. Insurance companies prefer composition but we also work with thick shakes, metal shingles, genuine and concrete tile. Warranties for these products range from 30 years to a lifetime.
RESTORATION Sometimes it is only necessary to refurbish a roof in lieu of replacing it. This calls for selective replacement of shakes or shingles, building up ridge lines that are damaged and pressure washing the surface before applying a coat of viscous sealer or moss inhibitor. Remember roofs need to breathe so use of a sold barrier is not recommended.
Peel off begins well before sun up·Preperation of a the lot. Covering pool, bushes and anything else that can be damaged
Nails and other debris need to be removed·Roofs create a lot of waste when being replaced
A clean job site is a safe one. Debris is removed constantly.
Approved by a local power company, here is Radiant Barrier used as an underlayment for the sheeting on a roof, its use can mean as much as 10 degrees difference alone in a building.
